Greetings from Hornitos Beef!
Beef is all the talk right now, and we’re getting lots of calls from customers wanting to know: What will become of the beef market? Is beef ever going back down? Where does all the beef in stores come from? Why is labeling such a big deal?
These are all great questions—questions that consumers should be able to get honest, reliable answers to. Here at Hornitos Beef, we definitely have an opinion. However, so do other ranchers. See, opinions are like belly buttons—everyone has one! Though our answers might not always align with those of a rancher from another area or state, I think we can all agree that we want safe, reliable, and sustainable options when it comes to our BEEF!
Most beef sold in U.S. grocery stores is raised in the United States, but a significant share—about 17%—is imported, and in many cases, labeling requirements may not make the origin clear to consumers. This means you might not always know exactly where or how that beef was raised. Each country has its own standards and protocols.
“Beef prices in the U.S. are currently at record highs. Ground beef averages around $6.88–$6.89 per pound, while steaks like sirloin can exceed $14 per pound (beefpricetracker.org). These levels are among the highest on record, driven in part by historically low cattle inventories—about 86 million head, the smallest inventory since 1951—and persistent drought conditions that have led some ranchers to reduce breeding stock.”
There are so many moving variables that play into the final product, and with all the things going on right now, we thought we would take a minute to assure our customers that we will be doing our best to stay competitive and help families fill their freezers. We are still working and still harvesting to bring beef to your freezer. We are happy to get calls and help answer questions that our customers and friends have.

Now more than ever people are wanting to know about how their food is being grown and raised. Connecting with local ranchers and farmers will help you stay in the loop. Head to a farmers’ market or look up some local direct to consumer farms and ranches to get your questions answered. Please don’t look to the daily media or social media for that answer. GO DIRECTLY TO THE SOURCE! Hopefully you will find that we are as eager to answer as you are to know the answers.
Availability on beef is still first come first serve basis. We are taking deposits for our 2027 year already! That means that you are reserving a whole, ½ or ¼ option for your family. We know that this is a large purchase and families save all year so they can fill their freezers, we do our best to help those that need to spread the cost through the year.
We have USDA combo boxes still available! Box quantities are $350.00 for 24 pounds of Ground beef!
And Custom Combos can run from $400-$475.00.
Cooking tips for those that forget about some cheaper cuts, but definitely a favorite of our families. Osso Bucco or Cross Shanks are perfect for the upcoming fall weather. Slow cooking and so flavorful, your options for this cut are endless: stews, soups, shredded beef for tacos, salads, enchiladas, BBQ beef sandwiches—need I go on? Versatility in a cut is a great way to choose your meals. Most of our whole beef customers kind of forget about Cross Shanks, but man, they soon come to find a new favorite. Don’t forget about the bone marrow that comes along with this cut! You can also utilize the bone broth that shows up in the cooking process.
**On sale now for $6.99/pound**
